How much cap space do the Eagles have?
Cap space moves with every signing, restructure, release and injury settlement, so any single figure is only accurate on the day it is published. How does the NFL salary cap work?
The NFL operates a hard cap: every team must be under the limit at the start of the league year in March and stay compliant through the season. Unlike the NBA, there is no luxury tax to pay your way past it. Unused cap space carries over to the following year, which is why teams bank room when they can.
What is a contract restructure?
A restructure converts a player's base salary into a signing bonus. The player still gets paid the same money, but the cap charge is spread across the remaining years of the deal (up to five). It creates immediate cap room at the cost of larger charges later — a tool the Eagles have used aggressively.
What is dead money?
Dead money is cap charge for a player no longer on the roster. When a player is released or traded, any remaining prorated signing-bonus money accelerates onto the cap immediately. A post-June 1 designation lets a team split that acceleration across two league years instead of absorbing it at once.
When does the NFL league year start?
The new league year opens in mid-March. That is the deadline for cap compliance and the moment free agency officially begins, which is why most restructures and cap-clearing moves cluster in the days just before it.
