PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles filled the roster spot opened when Jordan Davis was placed on injured reserve by promoting defensive back Andre Chachere from the practice squad on Tuesday.
Davis was placed on IR last week with a high-ankle sprain suffered against Pittsburgh and must miss at least four games, the first of which was the win in Houston that moved Philadelphia to 8-0 on the season. The earliest the rookie first-round pick could return is Dec. 4 when Tennessee is set to visit Lincoln Finacial Field.
The strategy behind the decision was twofold. The Eagles are out of PS elevations for Chachere and defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, who helped fill Davis’ role against the Texans still has two left.
Also, starting slot cornerback Avonte Maddox seemed to hurt his hamstring late in the game against Houston and Chachere has nickel/safety versatility plus can help on special teams. Wilson will be elevated for game day on Monday night against the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles also signed veteran offensive tackle Fred Johnson to the practice squad. Johnson, a University of Florida product, worked out on Monday. He has played in 28 games and started eight with Cincinnati Bengals. He was with Tampa Bay this season and was recently waived by the Bucs.
